"The process of watching a loved one in their final months, weeks days is fraught with complexities.
Pending death can sometimes be perceived as gentle and peaceful, yet this is not everyone's truth. Death can be prolonged, complicated, physically and emotionally painful for everyone; each death journey is as unique was a snowflake.
As soon as Sarah entered our home she brought with her a peaceful energy that can not be described, only felt.
The gentleness of her voice and the graceful way in which she navigates her surroundings is immediately calming, even though the environment can sometimes be thick with confusion, grief - the unknown.
I greatly admire Sarah's ability to be a thoughtful observer, a patient listener, and most of all a valuable contributor. I instinctually knew to listen to, value, and even welcome the sometimes difficult conversations that come with the responsibility of being an End of Life Doula.
Sarah was a fair and wonderful advocate for or darling Dad on many difficult discussions; and as such their conversations were seen as a gift, it was an opportunity for Dad to know he was being heard, and for us as a family to hear him without the background noise associated with the business of dying.
Sarah, held space with each and everyone of us, she professionally supported our emotional needs, and took action through acts of kindness when she noticed we were overwhelmed.
I thought I knew how to handle chronic sickness, and end of life having gone through it only 4 years ago with Mum, honestly, this time it is completely different; having Sarah to catch you when you are overwhelmed, sharing her vast knowledge, explaining and simplifying the order of process, evoking meaningful thought , or even just feeling her caring and loving nature, I don’t know how anyone could not benefit from having her be a part of this sacred time in life.
Sarah provided dad with a companionship and indeed a friendship that was treasured by Dad, they had meaningful, and diverse conversations of importance, she is now custodian of a few stories and life experiences that I am sure we will all revel in when being retold. She has held his hand, provided personal assistance, spiritually supported him in his choice of prayer, quietly been there while he has wept, and at times simply sat in comfortable silence.
Sarah will be forever etched into our hearts as we look back on this time with peace, harmony and a level of gratitude that can never be truly explained."
"Your serenity, knoledge, intuitive acts and insights to be a calming and reassuring person not only for dad but all of us has been, without question, the most extraordinary gift.
I know personally as I haven’t been as readily available, your support has been an absolute godsend! Knowing you have been there for him in the many moments he’s needed a gentle companion has brought such peace to my mind during these absences.
I know how much he looks forward to seeing you, reliving memories with you and just “ being” with you.
I’ll always remember with such joy sitting with dad while the beautiful acapella choir sang gently to him. He resonated so deeply with their simple songs and verse. What an incredible offering that was from your soulful self :)
Honestly I couldn’t recommend you enough to people in this precious and most sacred end of life space. I’ll be singing your praises to everyone lovely Sarah. Thank you for ALL you do and ALL you are!!!!!"
